Deciding Versus Choosing.
The main difference between DECIDING and CHOOSING is the aspect of uncertainty. When we make choices there is no uncertainty involved; all data points are clear to us and we simply have to choose our preference (e.g., food on a menu). When we make a decision we Decide on something without having all our data points or outcomes clear to us (e.g., what city to live in). Deciding is an exchange with the unknown, it requires taking a risk. Deciding without knowing exactly where it is leading you. This is why most of us do not like making decisions; because there is an element of uncertainty that puts the responsibility in OUR hands.
This is why Deciding requires trust and confidence, in life, but mostly in ourselves (which is essentially the same). The more we do decide the more we cultivate inner trust. Even through small daily decisions; the more we learn to trust ourselves in making decisions, the more we build inner strength, reliance, and confidence. There is nothing less empowering in life than NOT deciding. Not deciding is also a decision, and it usually leads to the less desired outcomes.
You might sometimes make decisions that lead to outcomes you wouldn’t initially have wished for. That’s fine, in fact, it’s the only way to learn as humans. The point is more about cultivating inner trust while making decisions and embracing the uncertainty of it all rather than fearing it.
